Cup of Sugar SMS format

Cup of Sugar SMS what?

Let's start by explaining what this relates to. The Cup of Sugar SMS service lets you send SMS messages to your contacts from our website, from your phone, from someone elses's phone or indeed from anything that is capable of sending SMS messages (such as a website that offers free or cheap SMS messaging services).

The great part is that your mobile number is kept hidden - this lets you send SMS messages to get in touch with people immediately without having to worry about who you're giving out your number to.

Why the fancy format?

A very good question. As SMS messages can be sent through the Cup of Sugar SMS service in a range of different ways, you will have to add bits and pieces of information to your message to ensure that it gets where you want how you want - hence the Cup of Sugar SMS format.

The raw format

The basic format for SMS messages you send from anything other than the Cup of Sugar website is as follows:

recipient#[method#][username#][password#]message

The values in square brackets, [like this], are optional. We will explain what all this means next. After that will give you plenty of realistic examples.

So what does the above message format actually mean?

recipient

This is the username of the contact to whom you want to send the message and is mandatory - without this specified, where would we send the message?

method (optional)

This determines the method by which the message will be delivered to your contact. The message could go to their contact's inbox on the Cup of Sugar website, to their phone or to their email address and so you need to be able to specify which.

"method" can take the following values, or any combination thereof:

p - deliver message to recipient's phone
e - deliver message to recipient's email address
a - delivery to all

This value is optional and if left blank the message will be delivered to rhe recipient's contacts inbox only.

username (optional)

When sending an SMS from someone else's phone, or from any thing else other than your phone, you will need to specify your username.

This value is optional and not required when sending from the mobile number you have registered with us.

password (optional)

When sending an SMS from someone else's phone, or from any thing else other than your phone, you will need to specify your password.

This value is optional and not required when sending from the mobile number you have registered with us.

message

This is where you put the actual message that you want to send. This is the only part of the complete message that the recipient will see. If you choose to specify a delivery method, username or password these details will be removed from your message before it is delivered.

Some useful examples

Here are some examples of the actual message you would enter into your phone. There are quite a lof of examples as this covers more or less every single type of message you might want to send (just find the one that matches your needs - you'll get the hang of it soon).

Please note that in all cases, you still just send to the one central Cup of Sugar SMS number: 447815001337
